ABOUT PROSPECT PINE
ABOUT PROSPECT PINE
PROSPECT PINE is a custom clothing and hand-dyeing project by Josef Centeno.
PROSPECT PINE's studio is located in downtown Los Angeles, CA in the Old Bank District directly above his two restaurants:
Bar Amá—an homage to his Tex-Mex roots—and Michelin-starred Orsa & Winston, named after his two dogs.
He believes great denim, good fitting tees and sweatshirts are essential for comfortable daily living.
MACHINERY
Fashion has always fascinated me, but the history of denim-making and the machinery behind the craft especially piqued my interest. My first sewing machine was given to me by my mom. It was a Singer sewing machine that she used in San Antonio. That Singer paired with the mentoring of my good friend, Carlos, is how I began learning how to sew.
PROSPECT PINE’s denim jeans feature a chainstitch roping effect on the hem sewn with a vintage 43200G Union Special, which has been out of production since 1989. It is the "standard of the past" and the most coveted collector's item of any denim head. I searched far and wide and finally found one in mint condition!
For all darning and repairs, we use our "holy grail machine:" a Singer 47W 70.

NATURAL DYE
PROSPECT PINE started as a natural dyeing project with a single 5-gallon bucket. Now, I have two 55-gallon vats of fermented indigo and a 30-gallon ferrous indigo vat that I use to hand-dye each piece of the collection.
